Hand Spun! Hand Dyed!
THE STORY: Every year, just before lambing, wool growers shear their own flock, or hire a crew to come to shear. Shearing is a dying art and finding people to do this work is becoming more difficult. Once the fleece is shorn, someone like me comes along and buys it; selecting based on the feel fiber and what item will be crafted. The raw fleece comes home with me where it starts its journey to the yarn you buy! The majority of the wool I spin comes from a large ranch here in Eastern Oregon. They raise cattle, but they also carry a small flock of Leicester and Gotland sheep. The cross breeding produces a wonderful yarn I can use in everything from garments to afghan or rugs!

ABOUT MY YARN: I use my yarns in a wide variety of crafts: Weaving, Knitting, Crocheting and Needle Felting. I spin yarns as both a single or plyed. The single skeins are usually put up with 102 yards and weigh approximately 1.95 to 2.8 ounces each; the plyed vary in length and weight. When spinning for your project, I try to spin each skein within .3 ounces of each other. Knitting, my singles knit up on a size 8 or 10 needle. Crocheting I use a G through J hook. People frequently avoid singles for these projects, however, I've been using my yarn as singles for decades and they do not skew when knitted or crocheted because I block all of my skeins, removing all corkscrews and over spin, thus allowing the yarn to be relaxed. A hat knit on size 8 needles will usually require around 2 skeins of yarn. Sweaters knit on size 8 or 10 needles will require any where from 10 to 16+ skeins, depending on the size of your garment. My yarns sells for $6/ounce.
ORDERING YARNS: As you can see looking at these pictures from my studio, I have fun at the dye pot! I dye all shades of fleece from white to dark grey. Frequently I will create a dye pot with the color coming straight out of the bottle and into that pot I will put skeins of white yarn, some light grey and perhaps some dark grey. When these skeins come out of the dye pot, I have a strong color in 3 tones, just perfect for blending into a crafted piece. If you are interested in ordering yarn, email me and tell we what colors interest you and How you plan to use them. I will cut several samples and snail mail them to you.
