HATS & SCARVES !!!

One of the fun things about these hats and scarves is that they are mainly created using 100% of my had spun yarns. Some of the hats are all natural colors, some are dyed and some even include a splash of commercial yarn for texture and interest. Every once in a while I feel a hat needs an embellishment of some sort.  I've picked up beads, Navajo fetishes, corals and turquoise when I've traveled to our Southwest and Mexico. If they have been inclded on a hat, I will tell you!

Each hat is labeled with the breed of sheep, or if it includes yarn I've spun from other fiber animals like Alpaca, Llama, Camel and sometimes Silk. Most of my raw wool is purchased from a large ranch here in Eastern Oregon and the sheep are mainly a cross of Blue Face Leicester, Gotland and Border Leicester.

All of the hats are WASHABLE on Delicate Cycle, cold water. Let your machine run through the entire cycle from wash to final spin. You should lay your hat flat to dry. Many people are surprised that my garments are washable.  What creates a problem are two things: shocking and scrubbing. You need to wash in cold water for both the wash and rinse. Shocking comes if you wash in, for example, warm water and rinse in cold. Wool does not like that surprise! Also if you wash your hat by throwing it in with your regular clothes, the agitation, even with no water temperature change will not leave you with a happy hat when it's removed from the load as it will be shrunk and felted!
