Handwoven Rugs

Add warmth to your home or office with a hand woven rug! The rugs I post here are all one-of-a-kind and when they sell, they will not be duplicated.  All of my rugs are woven using my hand spun, hand dyed yarn for the entire piece.  I purchase the raw wool from an Eastern Oregon rancher who raises Leciester and Gotland cross sheep and I select each individual fleece based upon its suitability for rugs. After I bring the fleeces home, I wash them one at a time in straight hot water and if the yarn is dyed, the dye pot is brought almost to simmer. Why am I mentioning this? My rugs are WASHABLE on a Gentle, cold wash cycle and can go into a low heat drier, removing and laying out flat to finish drying. I frequently do special order rugs ... let me tell you how we work together on your project.

How I determine the cost of a rug:  One of the most difficult things any artist does is to put a value on their work. Over the decades of weaving I have found this to be the most straightforward and easiest way: A rug approximately 30" wide (maximum width) and 50" long takes about 64 ounces +/-  (4 pounds of clean wool). I weigh out the final piece when it is  cut off the loom and charge you retail price of the yarn:  My yarn retails for $6/ounce. I charge my weaving time based upon the difficulty of the design. If your rug is just simple stripes, I charge $140. If your rug includes the diamond pattern, weaving costs start at $150 and up. Rugs can be as long as 10 feet and longer projects increase all costs.

Let's Talk About Your Rug: Email me if you are considering a special order rug. 1) Tell me the width & length you have in mind. 2) What 4 colors would enhance your room. I will send you yarn color samples by snail mail so you can see the actual colors, with several choices of each color. 3) What design? Only stripes or a combination of stripes, bars and diamonds? Once I hear what design style you are looking for, I can send you some pictures or sketches of what I have in mind.

Time Table: Frequently I won't have your yarn spun and dyed in stock since my work is all custom work. Also you might decide on your rug quickly and can become the next piece on my loom. I will be able to tell you where you are on my customer list and when I might be able to start weaving your rug. Weaving time can take at least 3 to 4 weeks because, quite frankly, I weave only 4 hours a day when I'm at the studio. As I weave your rugs, I do send you some quick pictures from my cell phone to give you an idea of what's happening.

Payment: To begin weaving on your order I will require a down payment of $425+/- (this cost will be determined by the width & length of the rug). As stated, when I finish the rug, it will be weighed and the retail cost of the yarn @ $6/ounce will be credited to your down payment the difference will be applied to the weaving cost. There frequently is a balance due since the down payment usually  just covers yarn cost.
